A Bookmark for Every Reader

Background

Libraries are much more than simply where one can borrow books. Libraries within communities help promote young people to read through reading-related programming

I was looking for something to do with the Layer by Layer Project when I visited the Morrisville Community Library. I came up with the idea of creating something small, practical and related to what libraries do on a daily basis – bookmarks.

Supporting Youth Reading Programs

I contacted the Morrisville Community Library to see if I could assist by creating and 3D printing bookmarks for use in youth reading programs.

The goal was to provide children with a fun, reusable bookmark they could use while reading and take home with them. I wanted the bookmarks to be something that would make reading a little more enjoyable while supporting the library's efforts to encourage young readers.

Once I had designed and printed my bookmarks, I arranged a pickup/drop off time at the library and personally dropped them off

What I Made

3D-printed bookmarks: Lightweight, durable bookmarks designed to be simple and comfortable to use. Each bookmark is printed as a single piece, making it quick to produce in large quantities.

Locally Made With Care

Every Bookmark was made from scratch, designed and 3D printed myself.

This project showed me that even a small, simple item can support something bigger. By creating bookmarks for the library's youth reading programs, I was able to use 3D printing to contribute to an effort that encourages children to read and develop a love for books.

I hope to continue partnering with local organizations to find simple ways to use 3D printing to support the programs and communities they serve.
