Background
After my first jar opener project, I wanted to continue using the Layer by Layer Project to support seniors in the local community.
Opening jars can be difficult for those with limited hand strength or mobility. I had previously designed a simple 3D-printed jar opener to make it easier, and I wanted to bring the same idea to another local organization.
I reached out the Morrisville Senior Center and offered to make a new batch of jar openers that could be given to seniors who visit the center.

The Morrisville Senior Center was open to receiving the jar openers, so I printed a new batch and arranged a time to drop them off.
I delivered the jar openers to the Senior Center so they could be given to seniors who could benefit from them. The goal was to provide a simple, practical tool that could make an everyday task a little easier and help people maintain their independence at home.
During my visit, I also had the opportunity to talk with people at the Senior Center about the project.
I explained how the jar opener works, why I designed it the way I did, and how I use 3D printing to make each one. We also talked about some of the everyday challenges they encounter and how the Layer by Layer Project could potentially support the Senior Center in the future.

3D-printed jar openers: I printed a batch of simple, durable jar openers designed to provide additional grip and leverage when opening jars.
The openers are quick to print, allowing me to produce them in quantities large enough to distribute throughout the Senior Center.
Continuing the Project

This project gave me the opportunity to take something I had created for one retirement community and bring it to another local organization.
More importantly, it started a conversation about how 3D printing could be used to address other everyday challenges faced by seniors. I hope to continue working with the Morrisville Senior Center and listen to their feedback to find new ways that the Layer by Layer Project can support their community.
